The body is a central part in Rita Maria’s creative process - how and why it moves, but also how movements are understood through our different gazes. She is interested in making works where the audience can have an atmospheric experience and at the same time be challenged in their beliefs, where the space can be queered and challenged, where stories can be told and explored.
Graduated from Iceland University of the Arts with a bachelor in contemporary dance, Rita Maria has explored and found interest in broadening her knowledge of art and the possibilities that lie just out of reach. Through workshops and her own creations, she challenges her own conceptions of what performance can be and shares these explorations with the audience through intimate and vulnerable performances.
Art for her is something that is constantly being discovered and challenged, and she sees herself as an artist that is always exploring and developing.
